Lessons from the past: changes and continuity in schooling – Stage 1
In this program students take a step back into the 19th century to get a taste of school life for a colonial child. After saluting the flag and marching into the 1880s schoolhouse, costumed students take part in a role play of classroom activities including a sewing lesson and outdoor drill and games in the yard, enabling them to make vivid comparisons between schooling then and now.
Cost per student: $12.00 per student or for a full day $14.00 per student
Duration: 120 minutes
Maximum students per session: 60

Expanding the new colony at Rouse Hill – Stage 2
Through an exploration of Rouse Hill House & Farm, established in 1813, students identify the needs of the early colony and the effects on Aboriginal people and on the natural environment of clearing land for farming. Students are encouraged to discuss the ways the early settlers reacted to the unfamiliar environment.
$8 per student | Duration 90 minutes

A colonial eye – Stage 2
Using examples of early colonial art, students identify and interpret the impressions created, and learn to understand the reasons behind them. Students explore the concept of perspective and apply it to produce an artwork depicting the landscape of the Cumberland Plain.

Need for shelter – Stage 1
The relationship between people and the natural and built environment is the focus of this program at Rouse Hill House & Farm. Students investigate the ways in which people and other living things adapt their environments to meet their needs for shelter.
$8 per student | Duration 90 minutes

A flick of the switch – Stage 1
Students explore Rouse Hill House & Farm to gain insight into changing technologies and the lives of the Rouse family over many generations. Through interaction with artefacts and the historic house and farm, students experience past ways of doing everyday things.
$8 per student | Duration 90 minutes

Exploring art – Stage 1
During this program students are encouraged to identify and sketch a variety of known shapes and forms from rich colours and weathered surfaces. Students experience a variety of drawing media, and appreciate and analyse each other’s artworks in a group exhibition.
